Snow in Kilnhurst

Written by Administrator

One of the things that Jamie has been looking forward to about living in the north of England is lots of snow. Before Christmas he was disappointed with snow falling in the south far more than here. However, he's a very happy Jamie now. We've had lots of the white stuff. And, we get to make footprints in the shiny, white carpet around the church too.

A Geocaching Birthday

Written by Administrator
Tuesday, 11 August 2009 23:56

To celebrate Grandad Roysy's big birthday the whole family got together for a grand day out geocaching in the Sherwood Forest. Treasure was found in caches big, small and micro. Lots of opportunities for family photos were taken. We gathered back in Kilnhurst for cake and coffee before heading out for a celebratory meal.

My darling Dad died on Saturday June 29th 2009 at the Pilgrims Hospice in Margate. A wonderful Dad, loving husband and brilliant Grandad - we miss him terribly but rejoice knowing he is with the Lord Jesus and that we will see him again when Jesus returns.

After New Word Alive we went down to spend a couple of nights with Mum & Dad in Ramsgate. They came on a cache hunt with us - it was a shame we couldn't find the ones we were looking for! We also visited the Spitfire Museum at RAF Manston (as we always do!) . The boys really enjoyed themselves as we didn't have to rush off anywhere. The weather was fantastic too.

First Days in Kilnhurst

Written by Administrator
Sunday, 01 March 2009 23:32

Here we are at our new kitchen table in Kilnhurst. Yorkshire is a lovely place to live. The boys started at their new school after half term and seem to have settled really well. Andy is enjoying his new role and I'm striving to set up new systems and get on top of all the church admin.

Ipswich Town FC

Up the Town!

The whole family (even Andy!) went to see Ipswich Town play Barnsley at Portman Road. We won the tickets at the School Christmas Fayre and had fantastic seats in the stadium. Ipswich didn't disappoint and much to Jamie's delight scored 5 goals to Barnsley's 1. We've all resolved to go more often, especially if they win!

Easter Holidays

We enjoyed the fantastic weather after Easter with a stay at the Hilton Hotel in Maidstone courtesy of Tesco Clubcard Vouchers!

The boys were very excited to be staying at a 'posh' hotel and were very well behaved to boot. We had forgotten just how beautiful the Kentish countryside is and we enjoyed trips out to Chartwell, the Bluebell Railway and (the boys favourite) Bodiam Castle. They loved making Mum climb up and down the various floors to the top of the (4!) towers.

Spring Harvest Word Alive

Written by Administrator
Saturday, 31 March 2007 21:23

The boys and I headed up the A12 to Skegness at the end of March for Word Alive taking Nathan from our CYFA group with us. Kate, Bethan & Daniel joined us in our small chalet. It was good fun catching up with friends, drinking coffee & hearing some great speakers explain the Bible. However, I did see rather a lot of the inside of our Chalet due to Jamie being very, very sick (Kate discovered just how much sick can be contained in a child's sleeping bag!) The boys enjoyed their final ride on the Noddy Cars as Word Alive is moving away from Spring Harvest & from Skegness next year. We're looking forward to New Word Alive in Pwhelli next year.

Anne's Hen Night

Written by Administrator
Friday, 27 April 2007 21:59

This had been a long time coming.....

and what a treat worth waiting for! Eighteen girlies in Waltham Abbey headed for Covent Garden clad in purple feather boas and shiny tiaras. Anne had no idea that 2 white limos would appear to whisk us all off (with a stop at McDonalds in Canary Wharf for a loo break) to Tuttons for a private dining experience in underground vaults.
*censored*tails followed at 'Dirty Martini's' before we were whisked home to play hen night games and a house filled with chocolate.

Roll on the wedding!

Crabbing at Fingringhoe

Written by Administrator

Here's the evidence! Boys split into two teams; Nicholas & Nick, Jamie & Edward - each intent on beating the others. The two Nicks were the first to catch a crab but Jamie & Edward (the Man Utd team) caught the biggest one.

Karl's Pottery

Back in November we 'won' a lesson for 6 at Karl's Pottery in Little Clacton. The boys chose a friend each to come with us so Edward & Lucy joined us to throw pots on a real potters wheel. What fun we had. Karl made it all look so easy. We're waiting to see the results!

Church Family Weekend Away

Written by Administrator
Friday, 04 May 2007 22:08

Another trot up the A12 saw us heading to Cromer for our Church Family Weekend Away at The Pleasaunce. The house was built for Lord & Lady Battersea and is right on cliffs by the sea.

The main sessions were focussed on Love, Hope & Mission whilst the children looked closer at Jonah and the big fish.
On Saturday afternoon we went crabbing (again) on Cromer Pier. Nicholas & Caroline managed to catch a really big crab on the beach. We finished off the weekend with a visit to some friends who live in Cromer.

Cybermen in Clacton

Written by Administrator
Thursday, 12 October 2006 16:33

Clacton was invaded with Cybermen! They landed at the Library and proceeded to scare all those under the age of 5 (and a few older ones too). The boys were a little wary of the big silver monster.

Strangely, a Dalek had also materialised in the Library. This Dalek had a sense of humour though and told those waiting to have photos taken that they had to say "Cheese" or they would be.........EXTERMINATED!

The Road to Hull...

Written by Administrator
Tuesday, 10 October 2006 15:45

The boys and I have just had a rather enjoyable few days in Hull! Kate, Malcolm, Bethan & Daniel have just moved there so we were invited to Malcolm's Licensing Service at St. John's Church, Newland. We stayed with Philip & Claire and savoured the delights that Hull had to offer including this marvellous chocolate fountain!

Windermere 2 Camp

Written by Administrator
Saturday, 26 August 2006 17:17

Mid August saw us heading up the M6 (with Hannah, Tasha & Nathan from Clacton) to Newby Bridge at the bottom of Lake Windermere in Cumbria for our annual CPAS Pathfinder/CYFA camp.

Our theme this year was Da Vinci Code meets The Pink Panther and we looked at the seven signs in John's Gospel. This involved lots of film clips of the mighty Inspector Clouseau and the evening sessions were delivered by Wayne in a dodgy raincoat and 'Clouseau' hat.

We were joined this year by 56 teenagers from all over the UK (and one from Belgium) who enjoyed two weeks of mayhem, watersports, days out and contemporary Bible teaching.

Nicholas even managed to get out on the Lake this year with a kayaking session. He thoroughly enjoyed his time with the big boys and girls.

Camp was especially special this year as it was the last one at Windermere. Next year Wayne, Andy, Janine and I will be running Hope Valley Venture in Edale, Derbyshire.
